Just incredible. You guys that got to know him and hear him play are so lucky.
A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first.

Hello Brooks! Been a long time since Dallas! I trust you are well in Rhode Island (if that's where you still are).
Yes, I feel lucky, but it's also given me the nudge to put steel songs on Soundcloud ,and the forum, of recordings I made. I think there are a bunch younger steelers that are coming up, who haven't reared their heads, that can use the recordings to further their playing.
In my career, to move to Hawaii and take lessons from Jerry Byrd also has made me feel reel lucky.
Scotty was so instrumental in helping make top steelers accessible. Sad about the loss of Dewitt Jr.
Story: Scotty organized a tour to Japan with Jerry and Buddy and Buddy used a wooden bar for his show.
When they got to Japan and Buddy opened his picks and bar pouch, his wooden bar had been carved up and rendered useless. Jerry had taken a knife to it.

Chris, I must have a twin with the same name?
I live in Idaho, haven’t been to Dallas or Rhode Island. Don’t believe we’ve met……however, keep the Buddy stories coming

After the guitar solo, at about 2:00, he starts playing an upper register bit. Then there is a call and response thing where he plays a riff in the upper register and repeats it in the lower register. I have never heard anybody do that quite so seamlessly. Even if he’s using an octaver pedal, it’s still jaw dropping.

Fred,
Buddy used one of the first gadgets that changed the sound like that. I can't remember the brand, and was about half the size of a rack mount.
Yes, he traded fours quite seamlessly with himself. I was at his house, with Mike Cass, when Pee Wee Charles demonstrated The IVL Pitchrider.
I posted this before, but here he is playing organ with the IVLon a jam: https://soundcloud.com/bluespruce8/buddy-ivl
