New member, new player.....maybe
Hi all. First post. Trying to decide to jump into pedal steel. Play guitar, Dobro (my favorite) and a little lap steel (c6). Way too much information about which steel to start with. One of my biggest concerns is what to do if it needs work...live in Tulsa area (would love to know if there's a local group here, especially anyone who works on steel. That's it. Hope everyone has a happy new year.

The OSGA Oklahoma steel guitar organization is in Tulsa and has a good many members. Beverly Harris is the President. I'm sure they can direct you to a steel guitar and repair in the area. The club has a Facebook page too. They have a monthly jam listed in this Forum events calender.

Dick, since you ask for opinions here's mine: Follow Larry's suggestion about the Tulsa group first, and find someone who would allow you to sit down at theirs and just get your feet wet.
If you like it, this forum's "for sale" section has a vibrant market for used pedal steels of all levels. I'd say get a decent used single-neck - Stage One, a GFI, there are others. Take your time learning it and if you want to back out OR upgrade, there will be a market either way.
Good luck and have fun!

Many play better than I do. Nobody has more fun.
