My new (to me) GFI D10 8x5

Post by Bill McCloskey »

Just picked this up as a lighter alternative to my Mullen G2 D10. I wasn't sure about these GFI's, but I'm really pleasantly surprised. It has a great sound, is much lighter than the Mullen, and it is really well engineered. And it is actually the most stripped down of all the D10's I've owned (no franklin, only 1 lever on the C6 side) but I really having a much more stripped down version. I also have a G on the top of the C6, in fact it is set up exactly like Herby Wallace's C6 in all his instructional material ( I have the "4 pedal" for the first time). I haven't touched the Mullen since the GFI arrived.

GFI guitars are easy to like. Good sound, Light, Easy to work on, I gigged a GFI for 3 years, Never had a problem.
I now own 2 GFI S12 Ultras, 1 keyed and 1 keyless.

GFI’s are very underrated guitars. I have 2 D10 Ultras. Thinking of selling one to thin the herd. Very well engineered and have great tone. Your black Expo is a great looking guitar!

I changed the strings for the first time yesterday. I always do this with trepidation. If something is going to going wrong, it is usually when you first put a new set of strings on.

But the GFI was a marvel. Very easy to tune and mechanically the most rock steady of any pedal steel I've played. Pedals, levers and open strings tune easily and stay in tune. C6 neck, sonically, is the best sounding of any of the C6 neck's I've tried so far. The sound is what I would call: neutral. it doesn't have a distinct sound of a sho-bud, but it has a beautiful sound of its own without inflection (if that makes sense), which I imagine will make it great for recording. I've noticed no cabinet drop.

Never thought I'd think it, but I'm thinking of selling the Mullen now. I like the GFI that much. But I'll enjoy both of them for now.

I wouldn’t mind getting a GFI to reduce the amount of weight that I have to carry. I’ve always thought that they sound great.
